The photos that surfaced online do confirm that sexy screen siren Angelina Jolie has spent time in romantic Venice with one of Hollywood’s sexiest men alive, Johnny Depp. But while it’s easy to fly off the handle and scream, “They’re having an affair!” it would be more prudent to read on.

Two of Hollywood’s biggest stars were on a short cruise at Venice’s famous canals for nothing else but the filming of their first ever movie team-up, “The Tourist.” But such is the controversy surrounding Ms. Jolie that, even after only a few week’s worth of shooting in the Italian city—and nowhere near the promotional period of the said movie—rumors were already hounding this year’s hotly anticipated pairing.

Reports have it that Johnny Depp’s long-time partner and mother of his two kids, former French supermodel Vanessa Paradis, is unhappy about the two starring in this movie together, and was also said to be trying to convince her man to pull out of the project. The reason? The upcoming filming of an intense love scene involving Depp and Jolie.

Apparently, the movie’s plot has Jolie’s character playing an Interpol agent who seduces Depp’s title character in order to flush out a criminal she’s had an affair with in the past. The movie is likewise based on one of Patricia Cornwell’s Kay Scarpetta crime novels.

The rumor mill is quick to spin its web with reports that Paradis is worried—and that she has every reason to be. Citing that the last time Jolie co-starred with a famous hunk, “she wrecked his marriage,” the wags wasted no time pointing out that Jolie and Pitt famously fell in love when they were filming “Mr. & Mrs. Smith.” And as if to establish a pattern, they also pointed out that Jolie had hooked up with ex-husband Billy Bob Thornton, with whom she co-starred in “Pushing Tin,” while he was engaged to actress Laura Dern.

Other unfounded reports claim that Depp was indeed trying to get out of the project, which could then be passed on to either Brad Pitt or Leonardo DiCaprio.

But a Depp defender told “OK!” magazine that the quirky actor couldn’t care less about working with the luscious Angie. That source reportedly told the magazine that, “Kissing Angelina Jolie on camera is the least exciting thing he’ll do all year.”

The source also reportedly stated that Depp preferred to do movies that are a lot weirder and that his dream co-star would be someone like Dame Helen Mirren.

And indeed, Paradis may really not have anything to worry about. Reports from the set would silence her concerns for now. Apparently, as soon as filming was done, Jolie would leave Depp and dash off to catch up with her kids—daughters Shiloh and Zahara, and sons Pax and Maddox.

Although for hardly the right reasons, the movie “The Tourist”—set to open next year—is indeed already getting a lot of buzz.
