NBC cancels 'Mad Men' spoof promo
NBC has pulled an Emmy Awards promo that poked fun at Mad Men after a complaint from a rival network.
The short featured Emmy host Jimmy Fallon and saw Mad Men star Christina Hendricks reprise her role as Joan Holloway.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, one network argued that the spoof provided unfair promotion for the AMC drama.
A representative allegedly said: "Are they kidding? They're running basically ads for Mad Men in the middle of the voting process. That's like having a presidential campaign and running an ad for one candidate. It's outrageous."
An NBC source acknowledged that the promo had been aired "prematurely" and confirmed that no further shorts would be aired until after the Emmy voting window had closed on August 17.
“This promo was posted prematurely,” agreed an Emmy spokesperson. “The Television Academy appreciates NBC pulling the content until after the voting window closes.”
