Nick Cannon: Mariah Carey wants to be a judge on American Idol

Mariah Carey 'Talks About' Being An 'American Idol' Judge, Nick Cannon Says

It's been an interesting month or so for "American Idol" fans. Ellen DeGeneres walked away from the program after just one season, Kara DioGuardi is rumored to be out, and speculation is rampant that Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez might be filling the vacant judges' seats. But since no official announcements have been made about the panel, Nick Cannon says wife Mariah Carey has considered the job.

"You know what? She talks about it. She says, 'I would love to do that.' She is one of the greatest singers of our time [mhmm, you know who's paying the bills in that house]; she would be great," the "America's Got Talent" host told The Hollywood Reporter of Mariah, who guest-mentored "Idol" contestants back in 2008. "I don't know if she has enough time, though, but if they could work with her schedule, I know she would love to do 'Idol.' Let's start the campaign!"

Cannon also commented on how the absence of Simon Cowell will affect "Idol." "Simon Cowell was the anchor of the show. And when he stepped out, it's like, now what?" he observed. "But as long as Ryan Seacrest and Randy Jackson stick around, I'm watching."
