President Obama Recruits Dream Team for B-Day Basketball Game
President Obama belatedly celebrated his 49th birthday over the weekend with a sports-heavy itinerary that included golf and basketball, followed by a barbecue on the South Lawn of the White House.
Sunday's hoops game was a star-studded affair, with current and former NBA stars including Carmelo Anthony, Grant Hill, LeBron James, Earvin "Magic" Johnson, Alonzo Mourning, Bill Russell and Dwyane Wade joining the president for a pickup game at Fort McNair in front of an audience of wounded servicemen and participants in the White House mentoring program.
Later in the afternoon, the president, who turned 49 on Aug. 4, enjoyed a barbecue on the South Lawn with friends and family. The menu reportedly included shrimp from the Gulf Coast, where the seafood industry is reeling from the devastating BP oil spill.
Michelle Obama and daughter Sasha, 9, arrived back in D.C. on Sunday just in time for the barbecue, after vacationing in Spain for five days. The Obamas' elder daughter, Malia, 12, is still away at summer camp.
President Obama, meanwhile, kicked off the weekend festivities on Saturday with a round of golf with a number of close friends at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland.
