‘Glee’ Still Likely For Javier Bardem
Don’t count Javier Bardem out of “Glee” just yet.
Despite a Tweet from “Glee” executive producer Dante Di Loreto last month which suggested that the Oscar-winner’s casting on the show was just a hopeful rumor, creator/writer/director Ryan Murphy told Access Hollywood’s Billy Bush that the Spanish actor is definitely in – if they can make schedules work.
“I went up and I congratulated him about his very pretentious Best Actor Award at Cannes, because he wins those things, and he said, ‘I don’t want to talk about that, I want to talk about ‘Glee,’” the “Eat Pray Love” director told Billy. “And I said, ‘What do you mean?’”
Ryan went on to explain that Javier was the one who approached him with the idea of guest starring on the hit FOX television show.
“I didn’t even send it to him because I thought the Brando of our time would have no interest in ‘Glee’ but he watched all the DVDs and he knew everything about the characters — he was obsessed about the show and wanted to know what was happening next,” Ryan noted. “He said, ‘Can I come on the show? Would you write me a role?’ and I thought he was kidding.
Javier told Ryan he wanted to play “a rock ‘n’ roll star” and Ryan noted the casting of the actor might force Julia Roberts to finally make her long-awaited cameo.
“He’s obsessed with this idea of him being a Spanish rock ‘n’ roll star,” Ryan continued. “I don’t know how we’re gonna do it. We have to do it. And Julia said she would come in at the very end and play his wife or something with one line.”
“Was she serious?” Billy asked, as Julia has been linked to the show in the past jokingly.
“She overheard Javier talking and she said, ‘That I would do.’ So I don’t know…. We’ll see what happens. I have to talk to him and see his schedule,” Ryan added.
In more “Glee” news, Ryan confirmed they are trying to work out scheduling details to get “Britain’s Got Talent” breakout star Susan Boyle on set for their Christmas episode.
“We’re trying to work it out… but she’s doing a Christmas album and we’re doing a Christmas album; we’re having a Christmas episode,” Ryan said before revealing how SuBo might be accomodated. “We talked about Kurt giving her a makeover for Christmas. That’s his Christmas present to the world — makeovers. She’s interested and we’re interested. We’re trying to figure out her schedule.”
Ryan also opened up about the music he received from Paul McCartney.
“I got a mixtape from Paul McCartney [recently],” Ryan told Billy. “A mixtape. With a little handwritten note from Sir Paul McCartney saying, ‘Would you consider these songs for ‘Glee’?’ I grew up with that guy, so I was very overwhelmed.”
