Johnny Depp Acting In Rango: A Behind the Scenes Look

Johnny Depp and the rest of the cast talk about voicing, and performing, in 'Rango'. See how this unique movie was made with actual performances.
Johnny Depp and director Gore Verbinski, who worked together in Pirates, reunite for the CG animated film Rango, for which Paramount has released a behind the scenes featurette. Based on an original idea by Verbinski, Rango is scripted by The Aviator scribe John Logan. Johnny Depp stars as an Hawaiian-shirt-wearing "chameleon with an identity crisis." Previous information has stated that Rango is "a oddly charismatic household pet that goes on an adventure to discover its true self." The movie co-stars Isla Fisher, Abigail Breslin, Alfred Molina, Bill Nighy, Harry Dean Stanton, Ray Winstone, and Timothy Olyphant as The Spirit of the West.

Johnny Depp Wants To Do A '21 Jumpstreet' Cameo

"Call him. I'm in. I'm in," Depp said. "I think it'd be pretty easy."

There's no word if Depp would reprise his role as Hanson or step into a new part, but Hill has told us in the past the film won't be a spoof of the original show but a "a hard-core, R-rated movie" that focuses on the fish-out-of-water scenario of cops returning to high school to pose as students in the name of undercover investigative work.

"What happens is, they get caught up in the high school-ness as opposed to the police work," he said last year. "And whenever they get too caught up in the high school drama, police work comes in. And whenever they get too caught up in the police work, high school drama comes in."

BlackTree TV's Jamaal Finkley sits down with the 1 and only Johnny Depp to discuss his new movie The Tourist. We talk about him meeting Angelina Jolie and his first time abroad.

JOHNNY DEPP (Frank Tupelo) most recently headlined an all-star cast as the Mad Hatter in the worldwide box office hit Alice in Wonderland. Prior to that, he starred as real-life criminal John Dillinger opposite Christian Bale and Academy Award® winner Marion Cotillard in Michael Mann's Public Enemies, and received his third Academy Award nomination for Best Actor for Tim Burton's Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, winning a Golden Globe Award® for the role.

Depp on Marriage: 'I Never Found Myself Needing That Piece of Paper'

"I never found myself needing that piece of paper," Depp said as to why he and Paradis haven't tied the knot. "Marriage is really from soul to soul, heart to heart. You don't need somebody to say, okay you're married... If Vanessa wanted to get hitched, why not... But the thing is, I'd be so scared of ruining her last name. She's got such a good last name."

The actor and Paradis have two children; Lily-Rose Melody, 11, and John Christopher, 8, who will all be spending the holidays at home relaxing.

"Sleeping, sleeping and playing with a lot of toys with my son," Depp revealed about his holiday plans. "Hanging out with the kiddies."

Currently co-starring with Angelina Jolie in "The Tourist," Depp said he was "pleasantly surprised" to find out how normal she is. "She's just a regular gal... with a perverse sense of humor. She's got a vivid and energetic sense of humor. She doesn't mind traveling to the dark or to the very weird."

With two of the biggest stars in Hollywood in the same movie, the paparazzi were all over them while they filmed in Venice. Says Depp, "It was like wallpaper. There were so many. I've never seen that many in my life. You'd leave your hotel to get in a boat to go to work and the question was, 'how many today?'"

You can see Depp and Jolie when "The Tourist" visits theaters December 10.

Johnny Depp Talks 'Captain Jack Sparrow'

In a new interview with Vanity Fair, Johnny talked about Captain Jack Sparrow and the 3rd movie to the 'Pirates' franchise.

On the set of the upcoming installment of Pirates of the Caribbean, Smith asks Depp what it’s like to play the iconic role of Captain Jack Sparrow. “Somebody once asked [Hunter S. Thompson], “What is the sound of one hand clapping, Hunter?,” and he smacked him. Captain Jack was kind of like that for me, an opening up of this part of yourself,” Depp says. “There is a little Bugs Bunny in all of us.”

“They couldn’t stand him. They just couldn’t stand him,” Depp says of Disney’s reaction to his controversial interpretation of Sparrow. “I think it was Michael Eisner, the head of Disney at the time, who was quoted as saying, ‘He’s ruining the movie.’ Depp reveals to Smith, however, that he remained unfazed by the studio’s hysteria. “Upper-echelon Disney-ites, going, What’s wrong with him? Is he, you know, like some kind of weird simpleton? Is he drunk? By the way, is he gay?… And so I actually told this woman who was the Disney-ite… ‘But didn’t you know that all my characters are gay?’ Which really made her nervous.”

Johnny Depp Talks 'Angelina Jolie' with Vanity Fair

“Meeting her and getting to know her was a real pleasant surprise,” Johnny Depp tells rock legend Patti Smith, writing for Vanity Fair, of working with Angelina Jolie on their upcoming film, The Tourist. “You don’t know what she might be like—if she has any sense of humor at all. I was so pleased to find that she is incredibly normal, and has a wonderfully kind of dark, perverse sense of humor.”

Depp tells Smith of the challenges he and his co-star faced with constant media scrutiny on set. “Poor thing, dogged by paparazzi, her and her husband, Brad…all their kids,” Depp says of Angelina and her famous brood. “There are times when you see how ridiculous is this life, how ludicrous it is, you know, leaving your house every morning and being followed by paparazzi.”

Depp tells Smith about the difficulties that arose while filming together—having to be discreet to avoid unwarranted speculation—which included “having to hide, sometimes not even being able to talk to each other in public because someone will take a photograph and it will be misconstrued and turned into some other shit.”

Depp compares Angelina to another famous leading lady. “I’ve had the honor and the pleasure and gift of having known Elizabeth Taylor for a number of years,” he says. “You know, you sit down with her, she slings hash, she sits there and cusses like a sailor, and she’s hilarious. Angie’s got the same kind of thing, you know, the same approach.”
