'Facebook and Twitter are killing romance,'
Drew Barrymore in September's issue of Marie Claire
She may be only 35, but Drew Barrymore sounds years above her age as she laments modern technology.
As she poses in a sultry new photoshoot for Marie Claire magazine, the actress admits she is a technophobe, claiming social networking sites and test messaging is killing off romance.
The E.T. star, who is in an on/off relationship with actor Justin Long, admits she longs for the days of decades past when the written word was more important.
While her contemporaries Ashton Kutcher, Jessica Alba and Demi Moore are always online, fans of Barrymore can't expect to see her starting up a Twitter, MySpace or Bebo account any time soon.
She tells the September issue of Marie Claire: 'The fact that I’m begging for a phone call is pathetic in this age of technology. Plans are made by text - I can’t stand it.
'I just don’t like this compulsive, instantaneous, over- information, lack-of-privacy, weirdo aspect of the world. If you meet someone, they already know everything.
'What about showing up on the date and saying, “What do you do for a living? Who are your friends?” Yes, you can avoid maybe a serial killer, but who f**king knows? I am a romantic and it scares me…’
While she isn't a fan of the internet, Barrymore does like to use the phone and has admits varying degrees of success with phone sex.
She explains: 'Oh, I’ve had successful phone sex - it can work. I think it’s f**king weird - it’s super weird.
'I totally tried it, though, with a little success at one point in my life, but it was just a thing you try, like wearing orange for a while. I don’t think it’s something I could live my life with.'
The actress has been in an on/off romance with He's Just Not That Into You co-star Long for three years, but refuses to clarify the current status of their relationship.
Earlier this year, the blonde star admitted many people were confused by her relationship with Long.
She said: ''We're good friends and we're doing a movie together this summer and I think it's very confusing.
'We're dear friends. I guess people find it a little confusing. I totally understand. It seems like, 'What is the deal with them?,' but we just adore each other.
'We're in each other’s lives, and we're friends, and we're working together, and we have worked together.

Drew Barrymore In Nylon's Denim Issue.
The sunny superstar has really good jeans.
Drew Barrymore is everyone's golden girl, and not just because of her amazing blonde hair. The actress and producer made a string of movies we can watch on 24-hour repeat (Never Been Kissed, Whip It, Grey Gardens...), and she still has time to star in the Cover Girl commercials.
Our beauty director, Holly Siegel, sat down with Drew in Los Angeles...
On Being Perfect:
"You have to not pretend to be perfect, because that's not only boring as fuck, but it's just not real...So I feel so liberated in that way. I just really want to be true to myself. That's essential in life. I would never be able to put on a charade. I would totally fuck it up."
On her In-Between Period:
"I had a big gap in my life where I wasn't allowed to work at all because no one would hire me, which was great because I think you need that humility. You have to have everything taken away, or you have to have a major reality check, so that you always appreciate what you have."
On Simulating Phone Sex in her New Movie, Going the Distance:
"You know, phone sex going awry is just a funny concept to me and I thought, This is going to be one of those scenes where we have to go balls out, and if it doesn't work, it's going to be editing room floor crap."
So Drew, where'd you get your jeans?
"I never have time for shopping... I've been wearing the same fucking pair of jeans for 10 years."

Justin Long Not Holding Grudge for Drew's Award Speech Snub
Just hours after clumsily forgetting to thank boyfriend Justin Long (for the second time!) during her SAG acceptance speech Saturday night, Drew Barrymore was seen braving the rain for some sandwiches and perhaps some damage control.
People reports that the couple was spotted at an Italian deli in Santa Monica, California on Sunday afternoon. "Drew was hugging people while she and Justin were at the counter ordering their sandwiches," said an onlooker.
The long-time couple chatted with the manager and some fans before heading back out into the rain.
Barrymore's nerves also got the best of her accepting a Golden Globe for her role in the TV movie 'Grey Gardens,' when she failed to give Long a nod. She admitted that she "screwed up so hard" during that speech, but it doesn't look like Justin is taking it personally.

Drew and Justin grab lunch together
Drew Barrymore and Justin Long braved the L.A. downpour to grab some lunch at Bay Cities Italian Deli in Santa Monica, Calif. And the rain didn't affect Barrymore's typically sunny attitude. "Drew was hugging people while she and Justin were at the counter ordering their sandwiches," an onlooker tells us. "Fans were so excited to see them." The actress kept it casual, in jeans and a men's green, oversized coat – and was soaked from the rain. On the way out, the pair chatted with the manager and some more fans before making a run for it.
