Hugh Laurie has recorded the first ever live performance of material from his debut album of blues songs, Let Them Talk, exclusively for guardian.co.uk. Three songs from this session in New Orleans.

'House' creator David Shore revealed that Laurie almost didn't play the doctor on the edge, as the part was initially offered to Gary Sinise. "He took the safer job, 'CSI: NY,' which was a guarantee. That was going to go on forever and we were going to be the Fox failure."

Other notable actors in the running included Rob Morrow, who went on to do 'Numb3rs,' and Patrick Dempsey. "Had we offered it to him, perhaps we wouldn't be on and 'Grey's Anatomy' wouldn't be on."

Now, Shore considers Hugh Laurie a friend, saying, "I've never worked with a leading actor who has as much love and respect for what I created as I do. If you ask Hugh what the most difficult part of the job is, he will still say the accent."

And we thought Dr. House was bad. On the November 7 episode of Fox's The Simpsons, House star Hugh Laurie voices a sinister character named Roger, a mysterious castaway who interrupts Marge and Homer's romantic second honeymoon cruise.



"I've loved the show since it started; this is one of the central pillars of modern culture," says Laurie, watches the series with his daughter Rebecca. But are they prepared to see him get the comeuppance that Dr. House has avoided? "I die in the end, and I don't think I've ever died on microphone," says Laurie. "That's a first."

Stephen Fry was on Radio 4's Front Row tother day promoting his new memoir and was asked if he'd ever crushed upon a certain toff.




Mark Lawson: You answer in the book a question I've never thought about really. It's an obvious one once you raise it, but you say you have never ever felt any erotic stirrings towards Hugh.

Stephen Fry: Yes.


Mark Lawson: You also suggest that your relationship would've been impossible if you had.


Stephen Fry: I think it would've been pretty embarrassing. I mean, you don't get much straighter than Hugh...you do get benter than me, but not by much. It would've been, I think, pretty odd. I doubt I would've kept it from him.


Mark Lawson: Did he ever ask?


Stephen Fry: No...no, I don't think he did. That's a very good point. He is a very good looking man, he's very handsome, and a lot of people find him deeply attractive I know – I've seen some of the mail he gets, it's extraordinary. So...it was good. But it was a love affair of another kind, and I think that's rather wonderful. It was a collaborative love affair if you like.

The cast of the hit show 'House' talks about the new season of the most anticipated series on television!

Hugh Laurie was guest at the Tonight Show, talking about his upcoming Blues Album and House Season 7.

The two characters kissed in the fifth season finale and will be a couple in the new season.



"[House is a] sexy boyfriend!" she told Fancast. "He's smart and sexy. Why would she be there otherwise?"

Edelstein explained that the pair will work hard to balance the new romance with their professional relationship.

"They're both going [into the romance] with a lot of gusto," she admitted.

The actress also confirmed that House will hire a new female doctor (played by Amber Tamblyn) on Cuddy's insistence.

"Cuddy is desperate for House to hire a female doctor," she said. "Since Thirteen is gone for a while, she really feels like they need a woman on the team."

It wasn't the way Hugh Grant knelt down for her in Sense and Sensibility, but Hugh Laurie got on his knees for Emma Thompson all the same.

Laurie, Thompson's longtime pal, colleague and ex-boyfriend from her Cambridge days was on hand to celebrate the Oscar-winning actress and screenwriter's career Friday as she was presented with the 2,416th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

"Everything she did just oozed talent," Laurie recalled. "She said talented things, she wore talented clothes, she rode a talented bicycle, she made talented spaghetti. She is a truly remarkable person, a very good friend, and I could not be prouder."

Also spooned into the celebration, thanks to studio public relations, was Maggie Gyllenhaal, Thompson's costar in the upcoming Nanny McPhee Returns.

LONDON — Dr. Gregory House has long battled the blues. Now, the actor who plays the acerbic physician plans to play them.

Warner Music Entertainment said Monday that British actor Hugh Laurie has signed a deal to record an album of New Orleans-inspired blues.

"I am drunk with excitement at this opportunity," Laurie said in a statement. "I know the history of actors making music is a checkered one, but I promise no one will get hurt."

Despite his note-perfect American accent on "House," Laurie is a longstanding member of Britain's acting establishment, famous for his turns in the "Blackadder" comedies and as Bertie Wooster in "Jeeves and Wooster." In 2007, Laurie was made a member of the Order of the British Empire.

On "House," Laurie's character often plays piano and the guitar. According to his record company, Laurie is a predominantly self-taught pianist because, in a very House-like move, he had "creative differences" with his childhood teacher.

The album is to be produced by Grammy winner Joe Henry, who has also worked with Ani Di Franco, Elvis Costello, and Loudon Wainwright III.

Earlier this month, Laurie received his fifth Emmy nomination for his portrayal of House.
