Emmy-winning actor Alec Baldwin's defenders blamed his ex, Kim Basinger, for ramping up the drama after an early morning 911 call by his daughter resulted in the "30 Rock" star being rushed to a Manhattan hospital.
"This is another example of Kim's sickness," a buddy of Baldwin's told The Daily News. "Alec came back from the hospital and there were cameras outside his house at 2 a.m. Gee, I wonder how they found out?" Basinger, the buddy said, is jealous that Baldwin is co-hosting the Academy Awards next month and is using their daughter, Ireland, to rain on his parade.

"She's not not going to let that go by," the pal said.

There was no immediate response from Basinger's side, but her divorce from Baldwin has been a Hollywood horror show from the start and left their daughter torn between two parents who appear to hate each other. Baldwin was transported by a Lenox Hill Hospital ambulance crew to the hospital at 12:55 a.m. after 14-year-old Ireland told a dispatcher he was "unresponsive," sources said.

Ireland's call was logged in by dispatchers at 12:13 a.m. as a "possible drug overdose" and the paramedics were in Baldwin's pad just a minute later, records show.

"He got into an argument with his daughter, took an Ambien and had a bad reaction," a police source said. There was no indication that Baldwin was trying to kill himself, sources said.

"This was a misunderstanding on one person's part," the star's rep,Matthew Hadded in a statement. "Alec was quickly released from the hospital, he's completely fine and will be at work today."Baldwin's buddy said the actor "didn't need to go to the hospital, but he knew that if he didn't, it would create an incident."

"So he fully cooperated and went," the friend said. "They saw that he was totally fine and released him."

Earlier, Baldwin was spotted working out at 6 p.m. at the Equinox gym on Broadway and 92nd St. Dressed in black sweats, the actor was all business as he bore down hard on an exercise machine. "He looked very determined the whole time I saw him, eyes straight ahead," the observer said.

Baldwin and his daughter have had a rocky relationship, a fact that was revealed in spectacular fashion when a voicemail of the actor calling his spawn a "rude, thoughtless little pig" was made public in 2007.

Baldwin left the message when Ireland did not answer her phone during a court-appointed pre-arranged phone call. In the voicemail, Baldwin threatened to "straighten your little ass out" and declared "you have humiliated me for the last time."Baldwin also described Basinger as "a thoughtless pain in the ass."

He later blamed the bitter custody battle over Ireland with Basinger for the stress he felt when he left the voicemail message. He said the embarassment he suffered as a result led to suicidal thoughts.

"He felt that way right after it happened," Baldwin's friend said. "It was a horrible period. But there's been nothing like that since then. That was almost three years ago."
