Of the coolest, most sought-after Canadian chicks in town, one is a nonplussed pint-sized actress from Halifax; the other, a dogged reporter for an alternative weekly whose years of persistence on a story helped track down a serial killer.

The actress from Halifax, is, of course, Ellen Page and the neat thing about her (well, it's all pretty neat) is she refuses to be eaten up by the Hollywood machine. She dresses as she wants, says what she wants, admits to peeing in buckets and composting the material -- and has thus become the pet of her dreamy co-star in Inception, Leonardo DiCaprio.

At a Hollywood party July 13 to celebrate the opening of Inception, Page and DiCaprio entered the nightclub, Villa, hugging. Inside, he barely left her side -- except to smoke a cigarette.

"Ellen doesn't like smoke, so Leo respects that and doesn't do it around her," reports a partygoer.

DiCaprio, as serious an actor as Page, isn't known for making friends easily. He lives in a house with some buddies, always takes his mom for lunch, and tends to stick with the same girlfriend for years.

"Leo is crazy about her. And if Leo is crazy about her, you can bet he can get all the top directors he's worked with (Martin Scorsese and James Cameron) to be crazy about her too," notes a Hollywood agent.

Besides DiCaprio's attention, the 23-year-old has become the darling of reporters and bloggers. Website hollywoodcrush.mtv.com named her This Week's Crush Girl and even the usually nasty Perez Hilton called her one of his "faves."
