'True Blood's Denis O'Hare says to expect the unexpected from Russell
"True Blood" has seen a variety of different plots this season, but many of them (from the introduction to Alcide to Tara's relationship with Franklin to Sookie's search for Bill) all have one common denominator -- Russell Edgington. The "Vampire King of Mississippi" is one of the oldest ones around, and (as we learned last Sunday) he's also not the most stable.
So what does actor Denis O'Hare think about some of his characters wild actions? He explains to Access Hollywood:
"[With] Russell, it's never gonna be an expected trajectory. He's not going to necessarily do what you would assume he would do, He has his own internal rhythm and [Sunday's] episode, he kind of goes into hiding and mourning... It's kind of more of him regrouping. He's kind of dealing with feelings.
"What I think is great about Russell — as opposed to other villains on other shows, other seasons — is that he's not omnipotent. He's got limits to his power; he's got limits to his abilities. He's not always rational; he can't foresee everything. He doesn't see things coming. He gets duped 'cause he gets tricked by Eric. Eric appeals to his vanity, saying, 'Oh, you're the next great leader,' and then he kills Talbot, So I love the fact that Russell's got blind spots and the more unhinged he gets and the more angry he gets, the more sloppy he's gonna get."
Even if Russell does manage to get "sloppy," he will probably still provide a number of entertaining moments. (Next time, though, it probably won't involve ripping the spine out of the evening news anchor.)
Are you excited for next Sunday's episode?
