Todd Phillips Explains Cutting Mel Gibson from “Hangover 2”

He directed the sleeper hit “The Hangover” and Todd Phillips is already pumped about the upcoming sequel.

And when it came time to cut Mel Gibson from “The Hangover 2,” Todd explained that it wasn’t an easy decision.

Phillips explained, “He’s one of our finest actors and, quite honestly, one of our finest directors. But The Hangover 2 is a family… and as much as I loved the idea, a lot of people didn’t… I didn’t want anything to come in between that family.”

Mel was initially offered a cameo in the flick as a tattoo artist, but then Liam Neeson replaced him when the cast objected to Gibson.
